Introducing: Hellcat Jewellery

I am OBSESSED! Hellcat; bedlam, crone, witch. The power of Hellcat, captured and immortalised in metal and stone. Hellcat’s timeless engagement and wedding rings adorned with skulls and bones have me bewitched and you will be too.

Hellcat hails from Birmingham; the heart of the Historic Jewellery Quarter, and is joining us in Whitby on the 23rd and 24th April for the Alternative Markets with the TilDeath collective and Leeds Festival of Gothica.

The absolute Hellcat herself, Jo uses traditional techniques to craft her jewellery by hand and we can’t wait for you to fall in love with her incredible work…

What do you do?

We craft strange and unusual jewellery inspired by the macabre. Our passion for the dark and creepy is evident in our collection - it exists in the space where grotesque and beautiful meet. and we have been developing our signature bone and skull designs for over a decade.

Our aim is not only to craft beautiful handmade jewellery for our gothic clients, but also support our local jewellery community. Being so close to our suppliers reduces the time and cost restrains of having materials shipped around, and means the benefits of that are passed on to our customers. It’s more environmentally friendly, allows us to support our local community and it keeps us connected to the history of our industrial home.

How did you get in to this?

I essentially fell into jewellery by total luck. Being dyslexic I was recommended a jewellery course due to it’s practical nature. I had always excelled in art and design tech but didn’t know all my options. After studying at the prestigious school of jewellery and winning awards for my work, I then got to grips with the business side and the rest is history.

What’s the process of working with you?

We’ll start with a chat and explore some ideas and designs You can choose from our current collection or design something completely bespoke. We’ll write you up a quote, and if you’re happy we make your jewellery. We try to keep it all pretty simple.

It’s good to start with;

  • inspiration - screen shots and links to your favourite pieces

  • stones - shapes, colours, sizes

  • Metal - silver, 9ct/18ct white gold, 9ct/18ct yellow gold, 9ct/18ct rose gold, platinum, palladium

  • your budget

How soon should people get in touch with you?

It all depends on the complexity of your needs. to be safe 3 months would be ideal for a bespoke ring.

What do you love most?

As makers we pour our time and energy into handcrafting these pieces, so customers sending unsolicited thanks and kindness warms my dark little heart. Every time someone says they love a piece of jewellery and wear it every day is just the best feeling, and we are lucky enough that once people find me they tend to become repeat customers!
