A court of Thorns and Roses; Sarah J Maas inspired styled shoot

“Hello, Feyre darling.”

- Rhysand, A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas

Sometimes, a book series is so enthralling that it engulfs your thoughts and sparks a fire of creativity. This is definitely the case when Vicky Dubois Photography read the Sarah J Maas series, A Court of Thorns and Roses. She wont mind me saying that for weeks, every time we spoke, the conversation drifted into the faerie realm and the love story of Feyre and Rhysand. But what a lush and dangerous world! A reminder that true love knows no bounds, no shadows are too dark to conquer, and that the eternal power of love defies even the darkest of destinies.

There was no option but to use that inspiration as the muse for a shoot and each image created by Vicky whispers of secrets untold, and promises made under the stars.

“I was his and he was mine, and we were the beginning and middle and end. We were a song that had been sung from the very first ember of light in the world.”

- Feyre, A Court of Mist and Fury, by Sarah J Maas

We are lucky enough to have the ruins of Whalley Abbey on our doorstep. The echoes of magic whisper through ancient ruins, a mystical setting steeped in history, and so a tale unfolded… a tale of love and magic.

Natalie, a vision of otherworldly beauty, wore Zorya by Legend Bridal, a gown of stars that speaks of shadows and moonlight. The glittering tulle sparkling in the coronas of light breaking through the ruined archways. Ash exudes an air of mystery embracing the shadows.

The magical bouquets by Maddison Rocks Floral, bloom from the pages of a dark fairy tale; dragons and DnD dice, crystals and moths nestled between the blossoms.

Dark smoky eyes and lips evoke a fae-queen, while subtle shimmering highlights for both Natalie and Ash, Hanna Carson MUA captures the essence of starlight and magic.

Adorning her tresses, a headpiece fit for a queen of shadows, a creation by Bunny Loves Evie; each twist of wire and hand placed bead speaks of power and grace.

Around her neck, a serious piece of obsidian by Luna Amatores grounding her ethereal presence in the realm of mortals.

Amidst the ruins of Whalley Abbey, Irregular signs fluttered in the breeze, inscribed with words of love, devotion and whispered promises of forever.

“I would have waited five hundred more years for you. A thousand years. And if this was all the time we were allowed to have... the wait was worth it.”

- Rhysand, A Court of Wings and Ruin, by Sarah J Maas

As Vicky Dubois captured every moment, each glance and touch between the dark fae couple, the air crackled with unseen energy. Their love, a force of nature, transcended the boundaries of worlds, mirroring the immortal passion of characters from the beloved series.

And as the sun set behind the ancient abbey walls, casting a golden glow upon the enchanted scene, one truth remains - love, in all it’s forms, is the most powerful magic of all. And in the heart of every dark fae couple, that magic lives on, eternal and unyielding.
